Monthly Roundup #42 - August '21

Hello all, and welcome to August’s update! While for the most part it’s been a nice bit of time off, there were some nice drumming things going on too which kept me occupied! However, much of the month was spent holidaying or DIY’ing while my wife and I had some time off together, which was nice to make the most of!

I offered a handful of teaching dates across the school summer holidays, which were well received and had a good amount of demand (understanding that most people were making the most of the summer holidays much like me!). The venue I’ve used in the past for summer lessons (a local rehearsal studio with all the necessary gear) unfortunately hasn’t reopened just yet, but I was able to hire out a room in a local church and bring along my portable teaching setup which I usually use for my school visits, which worked out brilliantly!

I always enjoy the lessons that I’m able to do over the holidays, as it’s nice to see my students outside of school which can give the lessons a slightly different feel, and it’s also great for the mums and dads etc to be able to sit in on the lessons and hear how they’re getting on. Towards the end of the month I was getting the ball rolling for my return to school in September.

Across the month there were a couple more performances of the “Sunday Night Live” show I’ve been doing, playing classic hits mainly from the 60s, 70s and 80s. It’s been a really enjoyable show to be a part of, and there’s two more coming up in September and October if you’d like to come see it for yourself!

Another gig which came up in August was with Throwback Kid, whose last couple of albums I’ve played on. This time there were a couple of live sets at the bandstand (on two separate occasions), both of which went down brilliantly. It was a bill made up of a variety of artists, so a quick changeover was on the cards, but it was great fun to just keep it simple, throw together a small kit as quickly as possible, and play through some tunes!

So, August has been a nice mix of down time, teaching, and some gigs going on, and I’m pleased to say that there are more playing opportunities gradually trickling in again for the coming months. Thanks as always for checking in and catch you again soon! All the best, Ed.
